What is our Church Service like?

We offer two different types of services; a regular service on Sunday morning, and Messy Church. We also have special services at Easter and Christmas.

Regular Service

Service times
On a regular Sunday morning, church service begins with a Hymn sing and announcements at 10:15 am. the main service does not start until 10:30am so don’t worry if you are late for either time. The service is approximately one hour long, a little longer on communion Sundays.

What to wear
Ours is a casual worship service. Come as you are.

Entering the church
The church sanctuary is accessible with a wheel chair ramp and power lift chair.
You will be welcomed by a greeter and an usher will assist you to a seat if necessary and give you an outline of the service.

Singing

We have a beautiful choir led by a very talented musician, Tim Olfert. come hear their songs and music. Many songs are sung in unison. Our music combines both traditional and contemporary elements.

Children
We welcome children to the service and there is a children’s learning time where Rev. Heidi has the children sit around her on the floor at the front of the church, Their lesson is frequently connected to the adult’s sermon of the day. The children love being around her. There is also a cry room for you and your child. this is a quiet room but you will still be able to hear the service. Once the learning time is over, children are invited to the Sunday school led by Jennifer Burgin and accompanied by Melissa Hill. The children will present a special play at Easter and Christmas during these services. Read about our other Children’s programs.

Sermon
Preaching is biblical and related to everyday life. Members of the congregation take an active part in leading worship.

Communion
Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month. Anyone of any denomination and age, including children, can partake in observing the Communion. You do not have to be a member of Gordon United Church.

Fellowship time
